In what is being heralded by some as a “giant leap for womankind,” Amazon founder Jeff Bezos officially launched every woman he knows into space this week — all six of them.
The crew includes Lauren Sánchez (Bezos’s fiancée), pop star Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn, reportedly “a friend of Lauren’s from somewhere, I think New York.”
When asked if this was part of a broader women’s empowerment initiative, Bezos replied. “Absolutely. When you know six women, you empower six women. That’s 100%.”
The launch, dubbed Operation: Lady Orbit, featured an all-female crew and lasted roughly 11 minutes, which Bezos later described as “roughly the attention span I bring to conversations about feminism.”
