Latest Blockbuster ‘Weekend at World Economy’ Hits Box Office

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Audiences flocked to theaters this weekend for the surprise box office smash Weekend at World Economy, a dark comedy critics have dubbed “eerily plausible” and “the year’s most fiscally irresponsible feel-good movie.”

The film follows a ragtag group of global financial leaders as they desperately try to make it through a weekend retreat without anyone noticing the economy has been dead for several days.

“From propping up the lifeless economy to endless distractions from an impending recession—every scene is both hilarious and existentially terrifying.”

“Some movies suspend disbelief,” said one viewer leaving a midnight screening in Midtown Manhattan. “This one just shows you how much disbelief we’ve all been suspending since 2008.”

Theaters across the country reported mixed reactions, with younger viewers laughing at the absurdity, boomers nodding in grim recognition, and economists quietly weeping into their popcorn.

At press time, the World Bank had issued a statement reminding audiences that Weekend at World Economy is a fictional story and in no way a reflection of the current real-world financial situation. Then, promptly bought all of the tickets and torched the theater.
